We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share selections from Amin Ameen‘s incredible virtual series The Link Up, which she hosts on her Instagram @EverythingNaArt (which means “everything is art”). It’s a multi-day event that seeks to empower, position, and amplify Black creatives in the Continent, diaspora and beyond, and shine more light on both professional and personal growth opportunities – especially as we approach a year of challenges within both.

The third Link Up series took place in December, and since we’re still taking notes and journaling about so many of the gems in these conversations, we felt it only right to bring a few conversations here to our Girls Are Awesome community. Today’s installment features Enuma Okoro, the decorated Nigerian-American author and speaker whose work focuses on “our stories and our soul care”. Here you go:

“When I ask people to grant my interview requests for my platform, The topics and questions I pose usually have the audience at the forefront of my mind,” Amin told us. “I have always enjoyed Enuma’s writing. Especially when she pens her thoughts about Women Artists and their work. I wanted to invite her to share her brilliance and thoughts about her profession of choice with my audience.” We’re so glad you did!

Amin continues, “I asked Enuma what she believes “Writing as a act of sustained courageous commitment” means. Her response was both poignant and important: Enuma believes that it takes courage and vulnerability to share your work with the world and not know what reaction to expect as they receive it. She goes on to say this is an act of vulnerability and power all at once. This resonated with both myself and the audience deeply.”

…Indeed! We’ll be sitting with that for a while. If you want to learn more about Enuma and her work, check out her website and spend some time on her Instagram, where she shares snapshots both from her life, and her writing.

And hey – Don’t want to wait to hear more from Amin? We get it! Sign up for her newsletter and stay up to date on what’s next from her and the Link Up series. Also, check back with us here next Monday as we highlight another Link Up conversation.
