Zambian-Australian rapper, Sampa the Great, is at it again with a brand new single that will make you move, immediately. The song follows her last release, a track called “Final Form”, that delivers similar amounts of brilliant black girl bravado in signature Sampa style. Both singles will be included on her debut album, The Return, which will be dropping September 13th via Ninja Tune.

From the very beginning, “OMG” takes off with a compelling tone set by the simple trill of a flute and a metallic ring, setting the stage for heaps of soul with generous open space. The track steps out into the realm of neosoul and hip hop tempo with a modern take on African percussive influences, rich lyricism and some voluptuous vocalizations throughout. Basically, the song feels like Alice In Wonderland if Alice were a free-flowing rebellious Zambian rap goddess.

Note by note, Sampa the Great’s music resonates with the power of culture and tutelage; this track is no exception. The dynamic music video adds another dimension to the epic tune; Sampa says of the experience, “I got to do something that I’ve never done before, which is to have my parents in one of my music videos. This is the first time they have been involved in my music at this level and it was important for me to express, accepting and flexing my culture with the two people who know me most!” The impact of the combination is truly something to see.
