Bless your week by turning your attention to some mesmerizingly smooth tunes from West Coast babe, Gabriella Wilson, better known as H.E.R.. If you haven’t followed her career thus far, now is as good a time as any to jump on the bandwagon and behold her effortlessly cool, infinitely soulful charm. Her self-titled album, H.E.R., from 2017 was a full-on R&B meal that delivered all of the classic feels with standout songs like “Focus“, “Lights On” and “Best Part (feat. Daniel Caesar)“. Since gaining a huge following based off sheer talent and good grooves, the kween H.E.R.self has released two more EPs that defy genre and boost her repertoire as an artist.

Her latest release is I Used To Know Her – Part 2 – EP and it is a refreshing exercise in vocal talent as well as a comparative departure from mainstream R&B in signature H.E.R. style. While the first EP instillation of the seemingly intertwined project, I Used To Know Her: The Prelude, zeroes in on the  sultry side of the neosoul scene, in Part 2, she flexes her creative muscles with organic flow and an interesting blend of what feels like Americana, pop and soul. Not only is this a moment of awe at her defiance of the norm as far as artist development, it shows that her songwriting ability is diverse and her style is her own.

One of the standout tracks from the most recent EP is “Hard Place“, an ode to the tricky balance yet ultimate joy of selfless love. The track is uplifting and glorious, just as she is! While you’re at it, catch “Carried Away”, the first jaunty track off of her latest EP performed to perfection for COLORS Berlin and stay tuned for more from this soulful goddess.
