Founded by Sandy Alibo and Kuukua Eshun, Skate Gal Club aims to connect, inspire and empower girls and women in Accra through monthly meetups.
These meetups are fuelled through sport and art, covering a range of topics and activities like skateboarding lessons for beginners, free skate, tie-dye workshops, gardening workshops, yoga, hula hoop, conversation, poetry, soul sister circles.
This month, Skate Gal Club put their focus on the topic of ‘Beauty’. With an ambition to celebrate black beauty, black feminity and black women’s representation in skateboarding, SGC want to help girls and women see their own beauty. For this event, hosted at Bamboo House, Accra on March 14, there will be a beauty bar with skincare workshops in partnership @barethecommunity, a kybraids workshop (a process that uses a wax print as accessories for braids) and of course skate jams and hula hooping.
As a part of their ongoing project, Sandy Alibo and Kuukua Eshun directed and shot a series of photos with local role models to build awareness for their community and events, which you can see above.
