Ellamae Statham’s illustrations are a garden, and we dig them!
As tank tops turn to sweaters, we’re finding ourselves increasingly grateful for bright spots in our timeline as we scroll throughout the day. And lately, these digital breaths of fresh air are coming courtesy of Ellamae Statham, the 25-year-old based in the heart of South London. “I love to create work that is inspiring and empowering and draws people into another world,” Ellamae Statham. “My Instagram is one massive dream land where you can see into my mind and other peoples minds too.”
And there’s a message to her work as well. “I was asked to work on a collaboration piece called ‘ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD’ with @reedamber who’s a sex and nudity advocate and mental health anti-shamer. We both suffer from OCD, and know it is stigmatised. People usually link it to just obsessive cleaning/washing when there are other pathways to OCD that are extremely painful, uncomfortable & disturbing for people. This was a huge project we wanted to share with people, and get the conversation going!”
“I love to interweave themes of identity, female empowerment and mental health throughout my work, which has been inspired by my own experiences,” Ellamae continues. “I also do private commissions based on women themselves, which is glorious because they decide a theme, what memories and objects they want to include in their piece, and inspiring words that make them feel powerful! This is such a unique gift to themselves and a reminder of their self-worth.”
Ellamae tells us she takes her inspiration from nature, plants, flowers, the universe and whimsical characters. Here are a few prints from her growing ‘FEMME & FIERCE’ collection, which is full of goddesses and superheroes and is intended to inspire, motivate and empower all women:
“I have lots of other exciting things on at the moment and can’t believe I only started pushing my work in these last couple of months,” Ellamae tells us in closing. “I’m now working full time and continue to inspire and motivate women with my artwork. #GIRLPOWER!”
