Tuesday’s Tunes: ‘New Boo’ from Kwamie Liv is Sultry AF

Let this single be your anthem for individuality today; the accompanying visual is just as badass.

Kwamie Liv has been bringing the goods in 2018. Fire singles like “Blasé” and “Sweet Like Brandy” had us hooked, and now she‘s released an equally intriguing instillation in this year’s magic. The latest track is called “New Boo”, an anthemic and intriguing look into the life of a lady with some serious hustle.

Liv says of the song: “I wrote ‘New Boo’ late one night on my guitar after coming home from a long studio session. I was tired, sitting on my couch caught somewhere between grunge nostalgia and images of neon lights and highways, part of me wanting to buy a one way ticket to somewhere warm.” This definitely comes through strongly in the organic longing of the soft guitar riffs and her uniquely mesmerizing vocal performance.

While the tune and message of the song echo with Kwamie Liv’s signature sultry embodiment, the visual that accompanies is written and directed by long-time collaborator Baby Duka and furthers a vision of empowering if not precarious individuality. The choice to use cartoon-strip representations of an erotic dance setting furthers a fantasy vibe from the song itself, and allows for vague and mysterious characterizations within the scene.
