Tuesday’s Tunes: “Babies Are A Lie” is a Dollop of Grungy Goodness

Grab your grunge realness for the day from Amsterdam indie band Pip Blom.

Amsterdam-based band Pip Blom has dropped a dollop of grunge rock goodness on the world with their new single “Babies Are A Lie”, released via Nice Swan Records last week. The worn in sneaker and cigarette glory anthem follows another angsty gem, “I Think I’m in Love” from earlier this year, and a raw-edged three-piece EP, Are We There Yet.

The band’s aesthetic draws from apparent influences such as Courtney Barnett and Angel Olsen, but also adds to their own signature kicked back grunge rock style. The song “Babies Are A Lie” in particular speaks to the ubiquitous coming-of-age banal yet somehow epic tale of everyday life and unremarkable romance. The result of “Babies Are A Lie” calls on memories of yellow school bus chats, grass-stained pants, worn in sneakers and sneaked cigarettes in summertime.

The power of this track comes in the form of catchy guitar riffs, honest honey-sweet lyrics, the punchy vocals of very cool chick Pip Blom and lo-fi textures a-plenty. Follow this scrappy Dutch indie rock band on tour this month around the UK and the Netherlands and catch all the groovy teen angst feels firsthand.
