Your new favorite song or lifelong musical crush is always right around the corner, and it’s our job to keep bringing you amazing new tunes and artists with that very goal in mind. That’s why we got in touch with the one and only Jayli Wolf

Jayli Wolf’s story is unique and yet she’s found a way to make it relatable for a big crowd through music. It hits you instantly and it makes you think.

Jayli Wolf grew up in the high-control religious group Jehovah’s Witnesses where she also faced her first love with another girl as well as the constant shame and guilt that came with it. She had to loose everything and everyone to leave, but when she did, she rediscovered herself and her roots and worked with her experiences through music.

Having always thought she was Mexican, Jayli Wolf found out her father was one of the thousands Indigenous children that were taking away from their homes by the Canadian government and adopted to white families in what’s now referred to as The 60’s Scoop.

Her music – including her powerful autobiographical EP Wild Whisper – explores her spectacular life story and touches upon themes like mental health and sexual abuse. It looks to the future as it explores the past and celebrates life, post-traumatic growth, liberation and her Indigenous roots.

We’re head over heels to have discovered the musical storytelling and therapy of Jayli Wolf and reached out to make her finish 16 sentences for us, so we can all get to know her a little better.

Listent to Wild Whisper EP below!

Hi, I’m Jayli Wolf and I’ve been making music since… I left the doomsday cult that I was raised in.

I started making music because… it’s incredibly healing.

If I were to describe my music, I’d say it sounds kind of like… dark electro/pop – definitely a fusion of different genres.

I feel the most inspired when… I am near water.

I’m really proud of… releasing my debut EP Wild Whisper.

The first time I heard “You Don’t Know How Lucky You Are” by Keaton Henson, I felt… understood.

I’ll never forget when… I felt unconditional love for the first time.

When I hear the word “sorry” it makes me… think far too deeply.

I feel the most empowered when… I am creating.

My latest release is “Would You Die?” off my new EP and it’s… very personal.

When people listen to my music, I hope they… really hear the stories and personal messages in each song.

It’s important to empower women because… we are already strong and need to inspire others to see that.

My biggest role models are… the ones with the soft hearts, the ones unafraid to feel.

Looking back at this time of my life 10 years from now, I’ll remember it being… incredibly important and full of magic.

If I met my 14-year-old self I’d tell her… “don’t give up.”

I want you to know that… you’re beautiful and you’re so loved.
