It’s no secret that social media can get overwhelming at times, as complicated and often contradictory messages are perfectly packaged and delivered to your brain through your phone, often in the form of extensively edited photos, unachievable beauty standards, fetishistic “lifestyle goals”, camouflaged ads and well-choreographed, casual outings. Of course, there are pros and cons to Instagram as an entity, and much can exist – good and bad – within the confines of the IG world. In any case, we recommend you give yourself the gift of peace, take a breather from the sometimes crowded world of Instagram and follow these talented artists who will grace your feed with cathartic creativity..

Tess Smith-Roberts AKA @tesssmithroberts

First off, jump into the comfortably chaotic world of illustrator Tess Smith-Roberts. Using colored pencils and a sketch-like quality, she captures an eclectic collection of cartoony characters doing ordinary or outlandish yet ultimately relatable things. Her feed is an aesthetic balance of color contrast and whimsical scenarios that deliver sincere stories about worldly things. Her overall tone is quirky and child-like, but punchy AF. Follow Tess Smith-Roberts for your daily dose of sweet and sour sensibility.

Sacrée Frangine AKA @sacree_frangine

This creative duo based in Paris, France is creating minimalistic art to calm your feed into a soothing, warm-toned paradise. The mostly faceless women portrayed in simple yet poignant portraits capture the soft essence of humanity from a romantic and holistic lens. Although there is not much detail within the silhouettes themselves, the thoughtful composition of each work captures a simultaneously broad and specific sense of joie de virve. Fittingly named Sacrée Frangine, or “Sacred Sis”, the subtle moments loosely captured in each frame speak volumes on the beauty of female friendship, femininity and life.

Joey Yu AKA @itsjoeyyu

Joey Yu is a massively talented London-based artist who will instantly capture you with her deep and sincere aesthetic. Alternating between colored pencils and crayon in rich jewel tones, her works capture intimate, otherwise ordinary moments in revelatory, vibrant stillness. Overall, you may get caught up in a feeling of instantaneous nostalgia; this warm and welcoming world could exist in almost any decade – from her life or something resembling your own. In any case, the immediacy and realness of her artwork is such that you feel you could climb right into the picture and join in the fun.
