We Asked Women Wiser Than Us for Advice at Roskilde

“Don’t fucking litter so much. It’s disgusting.”

They’re wiser than you, they’ve seen and done some crazy things and they don’t take nonsense from no one. We had the pleasure of chatting with five of the loveliest ladies as they told us about their fondest festival experience. They dished out some tips to the younger festival crowd too and they’re not messing around with their advice.

Lizzie: “This is isn’t my fondest memory, but the one thing I remember the best is all the mud in 1991. That was awful and everything was flooded. That wasn’t fun.”

If you were to give one piece of advice to the younger generation of festival guests, what would that be?

Lizzie: “To enjoy it and relax. It’s an amazing atmosphere at the festival and that’s why my husband and I keep on coming.“

Helle: “The best memory I have from the festival is when I met my ex-husband here exactly 30 years ago this year. He wrote his phone number on the insides of my rubber boots and that turned out to be the best thing to happen to me.”

If you were to give one piece of advice to the younger generation of festival guests, what would that be?

Helle: “Learn how to clean up after yourself and have fun! Enjoy it while you still can.”

Nina: “The best experience is watching everyone run in as soon as the festival area opens.  It’s a very beautiful way to start the music days. My husband and I go to Roskilde Festival because our children are here and we want to be involved in what they’re experiencing.”

If you were to give one piece of advice to the younger generation of festival guests, what would that be?

Nina: “Choose the music, choose love and take care of each other. And don’t fucking litter so much, it’s disgusting. Go to the bathroom the way you go to the bathroom at home so everyone can enjoy being here.”

Birthe: “The thing I’m the most fond about is meeting all of these fun and happy people. You get in a really good mood yourself. We were here last year as well and absolutely had to come back this year too, because everyone is so happy. The music is often not really suited for my generation so it’s the people around me that make for the best festival experience.”

Sussie: “I’m a musician myself and I’ve actually performed here at Roskilde Festival twice. First time was 30 years ago with an all-girl pop orchestra called ‘Girls Girls’ and the second time was with a salsa-group. It’s great fun being on stage.“

If you were to give one piece of advice to the younger generation of festival guests, what would that be?

Sussie: “If I were to give one piece of advice then it would be to stay away from drugs. We had none of that back then and it’s become too wild these days. Back in my day it was good enough with beers and you’re not enjoying the festival if you’re all doped up.”
