Female DJs Weren’t Really A Thing In Ghana… Until Now

TMSKD wasn’t digging the scene, so she made her own groove.

This badass DJ is paving her own way, apart from mainstream music culture around her own stomping grounds of Accra, Ghana with a new wave of electronic music. While the majority of the country’s focus remains on Afrobeats and Hip Hop, TMSKD (an acronym for “the masked”) wants to bring people together for an adventurous and inclusive dive into dance music. Besides this rather unconventional break from the norm as far as genre, she is also one of the few female DJs out there doing her thing.

There is even more to TMSKD than meets the eye; the mask she dons for her live performances is actually designed by the amazing Ghanaian artist, Artsoul Kojo. With her signature swag, she is armed and ready to leave behind old stereotypes reinforced by traditional Hip Hop tropes: “it all boils down to who can buy her (Ghanaian girl) a Gucci belt and a Benz or fly her to Dubai… I feel more can be done in using music to project the Ghanaian lady and not just to woo her into a girlfriend or wife.”

Grab a listen to what she’s into at the moment.
