Violet’s one of the first queens to star in a lingerie campaign, and the results are badass AF.

Ever since the days of pantomime dames, when men would dress in drag in the 19th century, drag culture has been steadily growing as a recognized and revered form of entertainment playing with the lines between gender and sexuality. For proof, just look at the popularity of RuPaul’s Drag Race as one of today’s most hyped TV shows churning out drag superstars—one of whom is Violet Chachki. Always incredibly polished and slaying their signature pin-up hair and outfit extravaganza, Violet has become one of the most recognisable starlets in the industry of drag.
And just a couple of days ago, news of the drag superstar fronting London-based Playful Promises‘ latest lingerie line (nearly) broke the internet. Violet Chachki made history by being one of the first drag queens to be a spokesmodel for such a product line (closely following in the foot steps of drag sister Marie Claire.) The line is called Bettie Page, taking inspiration from the iconic pin up model, and harkens back to the glory days of the 40s and 50s when pin up was at its peak.
As Fashionista wrote, “[Violet] is quick to note that the underwear she’s helping sell is meant to appeal to more than just the queer community, and says straight cis women are just as likely to be drawn in by the ‘glamour and beauty’ of the collection.” To view a preview of the collection, scroll down and enjoy!
