Yikes! duendita has released the first single off of her forthcoming album, “direct line to my creator”, which will be released this summer. Following in the footsteps of female artists like Solange, Erykah Badu and Willow, duendita is capturing feminine energy in a soulful and poignant way. Her new track “Yikes!” is a gentle and emotional ode to past love and the nostalgia of recycled romance.
New York native duendita, born Candace Lee Camacho, is a self-proclaimed “nonbinary fem hood bitch from Queens” and a trend-setting New York University scholarship recipient. She grew up around a very specific performance of femininity in Queens, New York; in her own aesthetic, she strives to rebrand the traditional version of female beauty. As a young and dedicated evolving musician (she’s only 21), duendita has a singular goal. She said of her release to The Fader last month: “I try to step out of my comfort zone as much as I can in order to provoke the musical ideas that live in my body.”
We have already seen the creative capacity that duendita is storing in her repertoire. She has released an array of well-produced and beautifully vocalized singles, as well as one art installation, “This Is Not An Album—a 10 piece collection which she produced in conjunction with a MoMA exhibit featuring the paintings of Rene Magritte in 2014 to critical acclaim. Her vision is strong, we can’t wait to see what’s in store with her forthcoming album, “direct line to my creator”.
