Your new favorite song or lifelong musical crush is always right around the corner, and it’s our job to keep bringing you amazing new tunes and artists with that very goal in mind. That’s why we got in touch with the one and only Aziya!

With recognition from Grimes, H.E.R, the music industry and most importantly a fast growing fan base, the past pandemic year hasn’t been all bad for London newcomer Aziya. She’s just 21, but after having played the guitar since she was 10, the bright new artist has worked on a unique sound that smashed through the wall of new music when she unleashed her debut single “Slip” i April this year.

With musical inspirations raging from Patti Smith to Prince, Aziya’s sound floats somewhere in between the rough energy of a sweaty rock show and the catchyness of a good pop song you can’t get out of your head. Later this year she’ll be releasing her debut EP And So I Do Not Sink, but for now check out her latest single “Blood”!

We’ve asked Aziya to finish 16 sentences for us. Here’s how it went!

Hi, I’m Aziya and I’ve been making music since… I was a kid! But I guess more seriously when I learnt to produce which was when I was 15.

I started making music because… I wanted to hear the ideas I was coming up with in my head.

If I were to describe my music, I’d say it sounds kind of like… if John Bonham were to play over a Santigold track.

I feel the most inspired when… I’ve just finished a documentary on an artist/ band and/ or if I’ve just left a sweaty gig venue of some sort with a lot of stories to tell.

I’m really proud of… my next single “Blood” 😉

The first time I heard “Fast” by “Salty Dog” I felt… stunned I hadn’t heard this record sooner.

I’ll never forget when… Grimes reposted me on her twitter. Legend.

When I hear the word “sick” it makes me… frustrated I can’t think of any other word to describe when I like something I’ve produced but I still love it.

I feel most empowered when… I solo.

My latest release is… ‘Blood’ and you’ll need some plasters.

When people listen to my music, I hope they… mosh.

It’s important to empower women because… representation is so important.

My biggest role models are… Rosetta Tharpe, June Millington and Prince.

Looking back at this time of my life 10 years from now, I’ll remember it being… only the start of something mucho exciting.

If I met my 14-year-old self I’d tell her… to shred like Viv Albertine.

I want you to know that… my first headline show is the 21st of June at Paper dress vintage, come mosh, cry, shout along, I’d love to see you there!
