adidas Originals x Girls Are Awesome Role Models – May Simón Lifschitz

Girls Are Awesome and adidas Originals have partnered around a top to toe product collection and to increase the representation of women+.

In an ongoing series we will excitedly be featuring the role models who helped us shoot the campaign for our new collaborative collection with adidas Originals.

The definition of a role model is flexible in energetic size and has a constant shifting quality and meaning to people. The same diverse qualities can be attributed to the role models involved with this shoot. Every single one of them carries a strength and drive for what they do that automatically draws others to them in a magnetic fashion.

We’re proud to present to you a group of people who have helped, inspired, supported and upheld a strong sense of community in each of their respective fields and who have all helped us to diversify our understanding of the word role model.

Actor, model and art history graduate May Simón is on track to become an international acting name. Being in the presence of May makes it clear that she has the kind of determination for growth and motivation for creating kindness, which will inevitably end up stirring some positive change.

Are there any actors who inspired you in one of their roles?

I live for the fierceness of Grace Jones as May Day in the 007-classic ‘A View To Kill’, Carrie-Anne Moss portraying Trinity in ‘Matrix’ and Charlize Theron’s transformation in ‘Monster’. I’m inspired by strong female characters, and I especially love sci-fi/fantasy genres, since they allow extremities. I played the evil witch in a Danish kids movie ‘Wild Witch’, where I got the chance to canalize this raw power that is a villain must-have.

What about real-life role models? Who is the most inspiring role model for you?

I am very inspired by women who live their truth and stay true to themselves in everything they do, and who spend their time and energy on insisting on a better future. I usually don’t spend much time idolizing other people, so I usually focus on being inspired by the women in my own life who are making bold decisions, which I get to stand by and observe grow stronger.

What is your biggest strength?

My biggest strength is probably also my biggest weakness. I am a persistent and stubborn individual, and I try to let go of that in my personal life and only channel that when I go into work mode.

What’s next on your radar? What should we look for?

I in an upcoming Netflix show called ‘Warrior Nun’ where I play Chanel, which will be premiering in May 2020. I am also currently on set, filming a Danish TV show for ViaPlay premiering this coming fall 2020, and I’m soon filming another project abroad very soon, which is still very hush-hush.

Finally, any sage words of advice to fellow humans out there? Maybe some advice you’d give to your past self if you could?

Be kind. Not for other’s sake, but for your own. Show compassion to all the ignorance in the world and keep looking inwards. Stay focused on your path, on learning from your mistakes and make sure your roots reach as far down as possible. ‘Cause then there will be no storm knocking your tree over, mami.
